Stressor: a play by Claire Fountain (a staged reading)
March 16, 2024 | 8:00 pm – 10:30 pm
We are thrilled to be once again collaborating with one of our fave peeps, Claire Fountain, for this staged reading of her new work, Stressor.
Stressor is an original, new work by Claire Fountain. What starts as a queer rom-com takes a left turn as increasingly bizarre and unexplainable things begin happening in Sophie’s world. Unable to distinguish reality from her subconscious, she starts to wonder if she has been cursed. Stressor explores the long-term impacts of the events that shape us, whether we acknowledge that they do or not.

Claire Fountain (she/they) is a playwright, actor, and intimacy director born and raised in Texas. Previous performances and staged readings of her work include UFI in Sundown’s Java Works Festival, Walk-In Lockdown at IMPRINT’s First Impressions Festival, 15 at KCACTF Region 6, and The Write-Up at The University of Oklahoma. Recent intimacy directing credits include Allen Contemporary Theatre’s Calendar Girls and Theatre Denton’s A Moon for the Misbegotten. Recent performance credits include I’m Still a Theatre Kid at The Stone Cottage and The Guinea Pig IV with Flexible Grey Theatre.
A staged reading is not a full production of a theatrical piece. Instead, it is a premiere of a new work, or a work-in-progress, for a playwright to be able to hear their script read aloud and also see how a live audience reacts.
