Synopsis

Nestled in isolation and burdened by its dark history, Hill House stands empty and silent, with only Mrs. Dudley, the grumbling caretaker, making daily visits. The eerie stillness is disrupted by Dr. Montague, a dedicated investigator of supernatural phenomena, who secures a short lease from the current owner to explore the house’s sinister past. Accompanied by three individuals, each drawn by personal reasons to join the investigation, Dr. Montague seeks to uncover the occult forces that have rendered Hill House uninhabitable. As they delve deeper into the house’s mysteries, their courage is tested by increasingly bizarre and terrifying events, revealing the true horror lurking within.

PLEASE NOTE: This production is based on the original Shirley Jackson story which differs from the Netflix adaption.

Character Breakdown

Eleanor Vance | 20s-Late 30s, a troubled young woman. Previously served as her mother’s caretaker. Gentle, soft, afraid, and unsure.

Mrs. Dudley | Mid 30s-60s, the housekeeper and cook at Hill House. She keeps a safe distance from Hill House and is very proud of this boundary.

Theodora | 20s-Late 30s, she comes to Hill House at the invitation of Dr. Montague. Light-hearted and open-minded. She is believed to have a psychic sensitivity which the Dr hopes will deepen his understanding of Hill House. She is free, bold, and open.

Dr. Montague | 40s-60s, an anthropologist with a belief in parapsychology. He has rented Hill House for the summer to further his studies away from the judgmental eyes of his colleagues. He is protective of the people he has invited to Hill House but is determined to learn its secrets.

Luke Sanderson | Mid 20s- Late 30s, a young man who is a member of the family that owns Hill House. He is sharp and has a charm about him—in another world he might be unlikable but there is something to him that seems fun and humorous.

Mrs. Montague | 40s-60s, she has her own ideas about the paranormal presence at Hill House and little regard for her husband’s methods or companions. She only trusts her companion Arthur Parker and is determined to get to the bottom of the goings on at Hill House using her own methods.

Arthur Parker | 30s-50s, Mrs. Montague’s traveling companion. He is a brash, imposing man who only listens to Mrs. Montague. Everyone wonders why he is there at all.
