Synopsis

Mr. and Mrs. Darling await the return of their children from Neverland. They are hoping for the best and planning for the worst as they wonder where their children have gone, if they are safe, and if they will ever return. Ever loyal Nana and Mr. Darling’s own mother join them during their hours of longing and anguish. Peter and Tink themselves make an appearance to the grieving parents, as we await the children’s return.

Character breakdown

MARY DARLING, 30s to 40s: lost, but not so lost. Ideally seeking a plus sized actor to fill this role.

GEORGE DARLING, 30s to 40s: by-the-numbers. Seeking an actor who can challenge traditional ideas of masculinity while maintaining a softness. Perhaps physically smaller than Mary.

MOTHER, 60s: commanding, all-consuming, yet fragile. Mother will also operate the NANA puppet.

NANA: motherly, sad, a Newfoundland Dog. (Puppet operated by MOTHER)

PETER: impetuous, rude, and irresistibly magnetic. We are hoping to cast a child in this role but an adult embodying childlike energy will also be considered.

All roles are non-race-specific. The Darlings speak with British accents, Peter’s is American. Why? He does what he pleases.

*Note about intimacy: The show includes moments of intimacy between the Darlings including a kiss on or near the mouth, subject to the comfort of the performers.

Auditions will consist of:

  • Cold readings from the script – see sides at the links below
  • General movement – dance experience appreciated but not required.
    • Optional: If you do have dance experience and would like to, please prepare a short dance inspired by the movement of flight, however you interpret that!
  • A short one-on-one interview with each individual

Cold reading sides:
MARY and GEORGE
MOTHER and GEORGE
PETER and MARY
