OTHELLO by William Shakespeare

othello OTHELLO

May 13th-14th, 16th-17th, & 20th-22nd, 2009

  • WRITTEN BY: William Shakespeare
  • DIRECTED AND ADAPTED BY: David Hanna

Othello, a Northern African refugee, becomes general of the Venetian Army; names an untested soldier as his lieutenant; and secretly marries a prominent senator’s daughter. His outsider status and high position irk Venetians under his authority, especially his ensign, Iago. Iago weaves a web of lies, lust, and poisonous jealousy, pushing Othello to his breaking point. By the end, Othello is left to question his own identity – is Othello a saint in a savage world, or vice versa?
